Work in Progress Painting inspired by New Orleans

I have been working on this painting for sometime now, but I’m happy to say I am almost finished with it. Inspired by New Orleans and the many beautiful balconies the city has, this painting hopes to show the whimsical culture of the city.  I started this painting many years ago and never finished. Every time I would start, there would be something I would get stuck with, and I would get frustrated and put the painting back in my studio. I did this on repeat for many years. This can happen sometimes and can be frustrating for an artist, because we want our paintings to not only be perfect visually but also a perfect expression of what we are trying to convey. This painting is done in acrylic paint on a wooden board canvas. The main character is a porcelain doll like girl who sits by her balcony. Flowers and leaves fall behind her in the morning New Orleans wind. Her favorite dolls sit beside her as she prepares for another carnival season.

Cape May Diamonds, located in the lovely town of Cape May, NJ.

So let’s talk a little about these stones that you see in my shop !  These stones are natural raw quartz crystals, that consist of an assortment of white, milky, rose, clear, yellow, and black stones.  These beach stones are known as Cape May Crystals or Cape May Diamonds and are scattered throughout the beach in place of sand.  My husband and I collect each from the lovely beach in Cape May, NJ. Origin and Legend Cape May Diamonds are naturally tumbled quartz crystals, from the upper Delaware River. The travel 1000s of years, naturally tumbling in the river and ocean waves, making them smooth and roughly polished. People have been searching for and collecting these crystals since the early 1800s.  If you tumble the larger, colored stones for longer; these crystals can be even more polished, smooth, and some may turn completely clear.  The small chip size crystals are very sought after because they are clear in color and they look like little diamonds....

The spiritual meaning of chives

Different plants and seeds have spiritual meanings and properties that one can use in their daily routines that include magic and kitchen witchery. Today we are looking at chives which come from the onion family. Chives grow very early in the season. They can even sprout when there is still snow on the ground. Chives are long, green, skinny leaves with purple flowers. These flowers sprout right before the plant goes to seed. When harvested, the purple flowers turn white with little black seeds which can be seen in the flower sprouts. These little black seeds are so small, that the wind can carry them away resulting in plants growing in different parts of your garden. These seeds are easily harvested and can be stored in a jar for planting next season.  Chives have a spiritual meaning of purification, protection, and healing. They are believed to keep away the evil eye and negative thoughts that one might have against you.  Chives have a strong scent since they’re in the...

Ring in the new year.. 2025

Happy 2025 Let us ring in the new year of 2025 with positive energy. Let’s manifest good health, wealth, and happiness. Set realistic goals and stick to them, but remember it’s ok to take breaks and rest for both mental and physical strength.  This year Two Cats Witchery will be 10 years old, but I’ve been creating art and handmade gifts for closer to 20. I can’t believe it. I’ve had my busy times and my slower times these past years. When Lexi was born, I took some time off to be with her. As she grows, I try to teach her how to be creative in her art. I’m so proud of her for being in her first art festival this year and out selling me. To see the future of art in young artists is exciting. I can’t wait to see what the next year will bring.  ~ Julia 💕
